2011 Chrysler 300: New Gallery with 23 High Res Photos

2011 Chrysler 300: New Gallery with 23 High Res Photos
It's taken a while, but we (Carscoop) finally got our hands on a collection of photos of the 2011 Chrysler 300 sedan that we can share with you. Set to have its world premiere at next month's Detroit Motor Show, Chrysler's flagship sedan is expected to go on sale in the States around spring of 2011, while there has also been talk about a Lancia-badged version named Thema, which could be revealed in Europe towards the end of next year.

Chrysler has yet to release official info on the redesigned 300, however, the powertrain lineup is expected to be similar to its Dodge Charger twin, offering buyers the option of a new 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 or the 5.7-liter V8 Hemi, as well as the choice of rear- or all-wheel drive.

In terms of the exterior design, out goes the bad boy / gangster look of the first generation model, and in comes a more elegant, almost Buick / Lincoln-like styling approach with far more softer lines and heaps of chrome trim.

We don't have many official pictures of the interior yet, but from the various shots that have made their way onto the internet (see here), the cabin appears to have been redesigned from the ground up, featuring a more luxurious and upscale, but somewhat conservative, appearance.

Dodge: What's New for 2011

Dodge: What's New for 2011
What's New for Every 2011 Dodge Car and Crossover.

2011 Dodge Avenger: Unlike its Chrysler-brand brother, the Avenger gets to keep its name for the 2011 model year. Otherwise the Chrysler 200 and Avenger get essentially the same changes. That begins with a new V6 — the 3.6-liter Pentastar that makes an impressive 283 horsepower. It's bolted to a six-speed automatic. The base motor is a 173-hp version of the existing 2.4-liter four-cylinder. It's saddled with a four-speed automatic until a six-speed dual-clutch transmission comes to the Avenger later in the model year. Like the Chrysler Sebring/200, the Avenger has had its suspension retuned for a lower ride height and more responsive handling. The outside has been upgraded to a decent facsimile of a not-cheap midsize automobile. The interior has been redesigned with better-quality materials, and an NVH-battling package of acoustic laminated windshield and sound-deadening material should quell the nerves of its drivers.

2011 Dodge Caliber: Dodge's hunchbacked hatchback got its new interior for the 2010 model year. For 2011 Dodge has packaged the Caliber in five "lifestyle models." They are called Express, Mainstreet, Uptown, Heat, Sweetness and Rush. (One of the preceding is not an actual Caliber model.) Six new colors are offered for 2011, including something called Mango Tango Pearl Coat. Eighteen-inch chrome-clad aluminum wheels are available on Uptown models. Dodge has also seen fit to retune the steering for a more direct and precise feel.

2011 Dodge Challenger: Dodge's eleven-tenths-scale pony/muscle car now has a decent entry-level offering in the Challenger SE. That's due in large part to the additional 55 hp brought by the new 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. At 305 hp and with more weight to pull around, the SE isn't exactly going to beat up on Mustang or Camaro V6s, but with the standard five-speed automatic, it should be a reasonably good performing base car. Helping in that regard are a retuned suspension, wider tires and a redesigned brake booster. The Challenger R/T also has had its suspension reworked, which is offered in standard "Performance-tuned" or the sportier "Super Track Pak" version. The big news, though, on the performance side is the availability of the Challenger SRT8 392. Yes, that's 392 as in, 392 cubic inches or in the modern idiom, 6.4 liters. It's the new SRT version of the Hemi and it makes an impressive 470 hp and 470 pound-feet of torque. A limited number (1,492) of Inaugural Editions will be built with exclusive interior and exterior appointments (like, you know, badges and color and stripes and such).

2011 Dodge Charger: For 2011, Dodge has applied some vintage Charger styling cues to its big ol' four-door sedan. That includes full-width taillamp treatment, a rising contour line along the flank and a longer-appearing, sculpted hood. All told, the Charger still doesn't look like its late '60s namesake, but it does look longer and less chunky. The model-year 2011 should be called "The Year of the Pentastar"; such is the spread of Chrysler LLC's 3.6-liter DOHC V6. The Charger inherits this motor to replace the wheezy old V6. It, like the inevitable 5.7-liter Hemi V8, is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. The Charger's oft-criticized interior gets a thorough update with soft-touch materials. Dodge has also retuned the suspension as part of a recalibrating project that has touched most of the lineup.

2011 Dodge Durango: This 2011 Dodge Durango has nothing at all to do with the old Dodge Durango. Nope, nothing. Dodge insists that, like the old body-on-frame, solid-rear-axle Durango, this new crossover should be called an SUV. OK, sure. It's based on the new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which is itself based on Mercedes-Benz architecture. This handsome unibody CUV is available with Chrysler's new 3.6-liter V6 with which the 4,800-pound three-row hauler returns 16/23 mpg and an estimated 0-60 mph run in the low 9-second range. A Hemi is, of course, available and it should return 14/20 (in 2WD form), chop a significant chunk of time off acceleration runs and provide class-leading towing capabilities. Like the new Grand Cherokee, the Durango will eventually be fitted with eight-speed transmissions. But for now both engine options are bolted to five-speed automatics.

2011 Dodge Grand Caravan: The Dodge Grand Caravan desperately needed a new, significantly less crappy interior and, like many Chrysler LLC products for 2011, a new interior is exactly what the Grand Caravan gets. Like the Town & Country sister vehicle, the Grand Caravan gets a single new impressive 3.6-liter V6 to replace its three mediocre V6s. All models come with a six-speed automatic transmission. Dodge also says that for 2011, the Caravan comes with a retuned suspension. By this we presume the company means that the Caravan finally comes with a suspension at all. And while we think Dodge has done as fine a job as possible turning the Caravan into something good-looking, we think it might be overstating it a bit when it says it has "sleek, athletic styling." But it certainly appears to be better equipped to compete with the guiding lights of the minivan market, the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna.

2011 Dodge Journey: Like many a Chrysler LLC vehicle, the 2011 Journey crossover thingy is getting a roughly 3,600cc injection of not-sucky V6. This would be the same all-new Pentastar V6 that debuted in the new Jeep Grand Cherokee. It makes 283 hp and it's bolted to a six-speed automatic transmission. The Journey is still available with the 2.4-liter four-cylinder as its base motor. Dodge says it has given the Journey's chassis an overhaul that includes new shocks, springs, tires, rear suspension geometry and more. The aim was to improve the Journey's steering and handling. The Journey also gets a new, nicer interior and has undergone a very mild face-lift, which includes Dodge's new split-crosshair grille.

2011 Dodge Nitro: This Dodge-y version of the Jeep Liberty comes with standard 20-inch wheels on all models for 2011. "Shock" and "Detonator" models also come with hood/fender racing stripes. There are four new colors for 2011. They are: Blackberry, Bright White, Redline and Toxic Orange. 2011 also brings a new package to Nitro, the Nitro Heat 4.0 model. This comes standard with the 4.0-liter V6 (also optional in years past), a five-speed automatic, an upgraded stereo and UConnect phone system.

Dodge Viper SRT10: R.I.P., for now anyway.

The 2011 Dodge Charger Police Cruiser Video | Red Letter Dodge
Today’s modern police cruisers are subjected to the rigors of the harsh day-to-day enforcement duties. It takes more than just a big engine, “cop tires and cop suspension” to get the job done. Last September, the 2011 Dodge Charger PPV (that’s “Police Pursuit Vehicle” for you civilians) was put through a battery of tests at the annual Michigan State Police Vehicle trials. Even though there was stiff competition, the 2011 Charger PPV still had the performance and handling (along with menacing looks) that would make Jake and Elwood proud!

Jeep: What's New for 2011

Jeep: What's New for 2011
What's New for Every 2011 Jeep Crossover and SUV

2011 Jeep Compass: Jeep is thus far being coy about near-term changes to the frankly unloved Compass crossover/econobox thingy. Last we heard, news on the reworked Compass will come in the late winter/early spring of 2011. Since the Compass is the mechanical twin of the Patriot, one might rightly assume that it will share some of the changes that the Patriot gets for 2011, such as a significantly upgraded interior and retuned suspension and steering systems.

2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee: If Jeep is to thrive (and we hope and expect that it will), it will be in large part dependent on how the new Grand Cherokee does. And so far the model has been selling like something that sells quite well indeed. The offspring of a largely disastrous hook-up, the Grand Cherokee is mostly based on the Mercedes-Benz ML crossover-ute parts set. This makes Daimler-Benz the baby-daddy in this family. Anyway, the new Grand Cherokee is a much improved thing: larger, quieter, faster and more upscale-looking than the vehicle it replaces. The JGC is also the first of the Chrysler LLC vehicles to use the company's new Phoenix/Pentastar V6, here in 3.6-liter form. The Hemi V8 is also available, of course. In the near future, Jeep will produce an SRT8 version of the Grand Cherokee powered by the new 6.4-liter Hemi, and the company will also eventually begin using an eight-speed automatic transmission in the model. For now, though, the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers a quite impressive mechanical package and an interior that's far better than the company has produced in a very, very long time.

2011 Jeep Liberty: There are no big changes for the 2011 model Liberty. There are four new colors (Blackberry Pearl Coat, Bright White, Bronze Star and Deep Cherry Red Crystal Pearl) and a new steering wheel and radio and infotainment systems (all with 6.5-inch touchscreens and 30GB hard drives). Midway through the 2010 model year, Jeep introduced the Liberty Renegade line with an emphasis on off-road capability. The package includes skid plates, tire-pressure monitoring, hill-start assist, hill-descent control and unique color fenders, fascia and headlamps.

2011 Jeep Patriot: Jeep says the 2011 Patriot has "aggressive new exterior styling" for 2011. OK. The changes to the interior are, to our eyes, more obvious, with significantly upgraded materials. Four-wheel-drive 2011 Patriots get a higher ride height than before. 2011 also brings new available 17-inch wheels and more importantly, retuned steering and suspension systems. Your newly aggressive 2011 Patriot can be had in four new colors: Blackberry Pearl, Dark Charcoal Pearl, Natural Green Metallic and Red Crystal Pearl. The company's UConnect Voice Command with Bluetooth for hands-free calling and audio control is now a stand-alone option on all models.

2011 Jeep Wrangler: For 2011, Jeep is attempting to make this iconic ruffian a bit friendlier and more sophisticated. No, no, don't worry; the company is not turning the off-road champ into some mamby-pamby crossover. It's simply adding a decent interior to the Wrangler. This new, nicer interior will include stuff like heated seats and automatic climate control should you want such niceties. The audio system has a new USB interface and now includes streaming Bluetooth audio. The steering wheel now has controls for operation of the radio, cruise control and hand-free phone. There are more power outlets inside, including a new 115-volt outlet. Stability control, hill-start assist and trailer sway control are standard on all models now. And five new colors are offered for 2011: Bright White, Cosmos Blue, Deep Cherry Red, Detonator Yellow and Sahara Tan. The changes listed above apply to both the two-door Wrangler and the four-door Wrangler Unlimited.

2011 Dodge Charger First Test - Motor Trend
Dodge's story, and believe you me that they're sticking to it, is that when the first generation four-door Charger happened, they first designed the car and then some out of touch marketing dude slapped the Charger badge on its rump. This time around, for the 2011 mega-refresh, Ralph Gilles and friends have decided to inject a little bit of actual Charger heritage into its thuggee sedan.

Ram: What's New for 2011

Ram: What's New for 2011
What's New for Every 2011 Ram Truck

2011 Dodge Dakota: Yes, the Dakota is still called a Dodge, even though the brand has been renamed Ram, which is also currently the name of the only other vehicle the brand sells. But none of that really matters because 2011 represents the final year for the not-quite-full-size Dakota anyway. And in its final year the Dakota comes with standard side curtain airbags and antilock brakes. It's also now available with Hunter Green Pearl and Deep Cherry Red Crystal Pearl paint. Our choice would be the latter, since we like all five of the things in its name.

2011 Ram 1500: The Ramiest of Rams, the Ram pickup truck is not substantially changed for 2011 (it was all-new not long ago, remember). There are a couple of new trim levels. One is the Outdoorsman, which combines trailer towing upgrades with off-road hardware to create a Ram that's equipped for hunting and fishing right off the lot. It replaces the TRX4 trim level. Ram has also introduced the Laramie Longhorn edition, which is the cowboy-fanciest pickup you ever did see. It's got two-tone exterior paint, many badges, leather seats with cowboy-filigree detailing and seatback pockets that look something like saddlebags. Intended to compete with Ford's King Ranch F-150, the Longhorn also comes with a very long list of standard equipment. Ram 1500s can be had in two new colors, Hunter Green and Deep Cherry Red, and are offered with a new Garmin navigation system and power folding mirrors.

2011 Ram 2500/3500: The heavy-duty Rams also get versions of the Outdoorsman and Laramie Longhorn (what is it with these people and steer anyway?) to complement the SLT, Power Wagon and Laramie trim lines. There are new interior colors and two new exterior colors (Hunter Green and Deep Cherry Red) along with new wheel options. A spray-in bedliner is now available as well.

Chrysler: What's New for 2011

Chrysler: What's New for 2011

2011 Chrysler 200: No, you may not call this newly named-for-2011 sedan the Sebring. The 200 is Chrysler's attempt to make you forget about the homely and unloved Sebring. Until a proper midsize sedan can be fashioned of Chrysler and Fiat pieces, this face-lifted, renamed, juiced and nice-ified Sebring is all the company has to offer. That the company felt it needed to shoot the official pictures of the 200 in the dark is not entirely encouraging. Much more encouraging is the new 283-horsepower 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 that replaces the Sebring's lackluster V6 and comes mated to a six-speed automatic. A 173-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder is the standard motor and comes, for now, with a four-speed automatic. Chrysler says that late in the 2011 model year the 2.4-liter motor will be offered with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Sebring's suspension system has been retuned for better handling. Its interior has been substantially upgraded from the cost-cutting bad old days under DaimlerChrysler. And for good measure, Chrysler has gone on a holy crusade against NVH in this new sedan.

2011 Chrysler 300: Like virtually all of Chrysler's various cars, trucks and vans, the 300 sedan received a heavy facelift for 2011. It still has the short, stocky proportions that made it such a hit many years ago, but Chrysler's designers have now added LED marker lights up front and slightly shinier taillights out back. The interior has been completely refreshed as well. There's a new navigation system, better looking trim and even air conditioned seats.

2011 Chrysler Town & Country: Did you know that the 2010 Chrysler Town & Country minivan was offered with three different V6s? What the hell? For 2011, there is one V6 available: the new 283-hp 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 that debuted in the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. That engine is bolted to a six-speed automatic. Fiat-controlled Chrysler has also subtly face-lifted the big box, making it look, well, less boxy. More importantly, the company has designed a new interior to replace the woefully cheap horror show that soiled the inside of the old van. Chrysler says it also reworked the van's suspension, which dearly needed it.

Production starts on Mopar 426 'Elephant' Hemi V8 crate motor — Autoblog
Chrysler continues to successfully trade on its history with the introduction of the new 426 cubic-inch Generation III Hemi crate engine. When your past is filled with some of the most illustrious engines to ever roar down a drag strip, around an oval or under the hood of a muscle car, it's smart to capitalize on it. So with that in mind, production of the 426 crate engine has swung into action.

The new Mopar 426 Hemi Crate Engine is all-aluminum and carries ratings of 540 horsepower and 530 pound-feet of torque for a $13,675 price tag. The engine made its debut at the Performance Racing Industry show in Florida, and was joined by other performance enhancing Mopar goodies. Pieces big and small, from valvetrain tie bars and cylinder head stud kits to aluminum engine blocks, W2 cylinder heads and rear strut tower braces for the Challenger/Charger/300, were all shown off at the show which ran from December 9-11. What it means for the leadfoot-at-large is that Chrysler loves its enthusiastic fan base as much as they love its products

2011 Jeep Compass Receives "Grand" Facelift: Official Details and Photo Gallery - Carscoop

2011 Jeep Compass Receives "Grand" Facelift: Official Details and Photo Gallery - Carscoop
The Chrysler Group has officially revealed the refreshed for the 2011 model year Jeep Compass crossover, which will go on sale in the U.S. within the next few weeks. In a similar fashion to its sister model, the 2011 Patriot, which looks like a smaller Liberty / Cherokee, the 2011 Compass bears a strong resemblance to Jeep's flagship, the new Grand Cherokee.

In fact, the SUV's restyled front end appears to have been directly lifted off the larger Jeep model. The new headlamps and the traditional Jeep grille with seven slots are joined by redesigned hood and fenders, additional body cladding, new brightwork throughout the exterior and slimmer roof rails.

At the back, the 2011 Compass gains LED tail lamps, new body-color rear spoiler and some trim updates. The newly designed standard 17-inch aluminum wheels, and 18-inch aluminum or chrome-clad wheels that are available on Limited models, complete the exterior makeover.

Inside, the interior is identical to the latest Jeep Patriot meaning buyers of the Compass will be greeted by higher-grade materials including soft touch front-door trim panels with a padded upper surface, a new center armrest and a three-spoke Jeep steering wheel with integrated controls for the radio, cruise control, available handsfree phone and other vehicle functions.

For 2011, the Jeep Compass will be offered with a choice of two powerplants. The base 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol provides 158 horsepower and 141 lb.-ft. (191 Nm) of torque, and can be hooked up to either a continuously variable transmission (CVT2) or a five-speed manual gearbox, in which case it returns 23 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.

Those looking for more power can opt for the 2.4-liter unit, which produces 172-horsepower and 165 lb.-ft. of torque. Again, buyers can choose between the CVT and the 5-speed stick shift. Oddly enough, Jeep claims the larger displacement unit returns the same exact mileage as the 2.0-liter model.

The new Compass is available in three drivetrain configurations, including the standard front-wheel-drive model, the Freedom Drive I with full-time, active four-wheel-drive system with lock mode, and the Freedom Drive II Off-Road Package that comes with a four-wheel-drive system and a second-generation continuously variable transaxle with low range gearing (CVT2L).

Finally, Jeep's newcomer also boasts a retuned suspension for 2011, with higher spring and damping rates, added rebound springs, and an increased diameter of the rear sway bar.

The new Compass is built at the Chrysler Group's Belvidere Assembly Plant in Belvidere, Illinois, with the first examples set to arrive in Jeep showrooms in December 2010.

2011 Chrysler 300 interior image arrives on web — Autoblog

2011 Chrysler 300 interior image arrives on web — Autoblog
If you've been itching to see exactly what the designers at Chrysler have cooked up for the next-generation 300 interior, itch no more. A photo of the car's cabin has managed to sneak past the watchful eyes of Chrysler bosses and make its way to the web, and from what we can tell, buyers can expect to see plenty of the company's new-found attention to detail inside. Attractive wood trim accents the door panels, dash, center stack and steering wheel, and it looks like the new 300 will make use of the same delicious touch screen navigation system that we played with in both the 2011 Dodge Charger and 2011 Dodge Journey.

The changes easily take care of the much harped-on interior of the current generation 300. Expect to see the big sedan bow with a 292-horsepower version of the new Pentastar V6 as well as a 360-horsepower 5.7-liter V8. Chrysler hasn't said whether or not an SRT8 version is in the cards, but we'd be surprised if we didn't see a muscle-bound version of the vehicle show up in the near future.

First Drive: 2011 Dodge Charger — Autoblog

First Drive: 2011 Dodge Charger — Autoblog
Bo and Luke have matured a bit since The Dukes of Hazzard went off the air in 1985. The pair drove, crashed and flew plenty of Rebel-flagged Chargers in their day. Having matured past these antics, both men would likely appreciate the 2011 Dodge Charger. Certainly, the sedan's styling more closely matches the second-generation Mopar they're known for hotfooting, and the significantly improved interior would also likely satisfy their more refined backsides.

SEMA 2010: Chrysler gets down and dirty with Ram Runner and Ram Outdoorsman — Autoblog

SEMA 2010: Chrysler gets down and dirty with Ram Runner and Ram Outdoorsman — Autoblog
Ram is gunning for the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor. The Chrysler pickup truck purveyor parked its Ram Runner under the spot lights at this year's SEMA show, and according to Pickuptrucks.com, the company plans to sell a kit to turn your very own Ram into the muddy beast you see above.

With suspension components from Kore and Fox Racing, wildly flared body work and a full safety cage inside, the goodies won't come cheap, but they should help the mighty Mopar keep pace with its Blue Oval competition. Look to spend around $11,000 for the suspension upgrades alone, but buyers should be able to snag some of the pieces a la carte.

If you're more interested in spending some time fishing or hunting, Ram also showed off its Outdoorsman. With a clever storage system for rifles or fishing rods, underbody protection for bumping around off road and a price tag that starts at $28,350, the truck is all you need to take home your next trophy.

SEMA 2010: Jeep Grand Cherokee gets low-rider, off-road treatment — Autoblog

SEMA 2010: Jeep Grand Cherokee gets low-rider, off-road treatment — Autoblog
Jeep covered its bases with two takes on the Grand Cherokee at this year's SEMA show, displaying both a "Lowrider" Edition and a globe-crushing Off-Road Edition. When we first heard that Chrysler was planning to shock Las Vegas with a frame-scraping iteration of the Grand Cherokee, we were a little baffled as to why the company would want to defang one of the most off-road capable SUVs out there by dropping it to the ground. But with custom 22-inch rollers made up just for SEMA and a unique front fascia, the Street Edition looks to sit no lower to terra firma than the stock model. Someone at Chrysler marketing needs to spend some time on Urban Dictionary.

Meanwhile, the Off-Road Edition politely book ends the other side of the SUV spectrum. Taller coil springs, 33-inch BFGoodrich tires and an arsenal of trail-ready armor all come along for the ride, and unlike its stage mate, Mopar skid plates, rock rails and tow hooks mean this GC actually lives up to its name. We dig.

2012 Chrysler 300 Snapped Without Camo

2012 Chrysler 300 Snapped Without Camo
As part of its ongoing product overhaul, Chrysler plans to introduce a heavily face-lifted successor to its full-size 300 sedan late next spring as a 2012 model.

The latest spy shots of an undisguised prototype show the car's new front and rear fascias. There's a new grille and headlights with projector-beam lamps and LED lighting strips, as well as a new front airdam and hood.
The revised taillamps are more detailed and upscale in appearance, with new chrome accents. The revised rear bumper shrouds dual exhaust pipes.

The 2012 Chrysler 300 is expected to offer the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 as its base engine. Eventually, the automaker also plans to install an eight-speed automatic transmission built under license from ZF, but not until 2013.

Chrysler provided the first glimpse of the revamped 300 more than 20 months ago, in an early 2009 pre-bankruptcy filing with the U.S. Treasury.

After management control of the company was handed over to Fiat, additional details of future products were handed out to investors and the media, including the news that Fiat plans to merge the Chrysler brand with its own Lancia line.

2011 Dodge Charger - First Drive Review - Auto Reviews - Car and Driver

2011 Dodge Charger - First Drive Review - Auto Reviews - Car and Driver
Dodge’s careful redesign brings some civility, but not too much.
Is there an angrier car on the road than the Dodge Charger?

No other car’s styling says, “Don’t f*&! with me” with such eloquence. There’s menace in the scowling headlights, the shield-like crosshair grille, and the shoebox-sized side windows. Those traits, and its fulsome dimensions, mean the Charger works perfectly as a police cruiser. Cops love the Charger because the car’s mere presence has drivers pulling over immediately, even if the lights aren’t flashing. Civilians love it for those exact same reasons. But for all of its stylized rage, the outgoing Charger never really looked like a Charger. “It could have been an Intrepid, or even a Gran Fury, but we went with ‘Charger’ as it had the best name recognition,” president and Dodge-car brand CEO and senior vice-president of product design Ralph Gilles tells us…

Chrysler reveals upgraded 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan | detnews.com | The Detroit News

Chrysler reveals upgraded 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan | detnews.com | The Detroit News

Chrysler Group LLC released details of changes to the 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan today in a bid to hang on to its prominence in the minivan sector in the face of competition from a new Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey introduced this year.

The Dodge Caravan has Chrysler's new Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6 engine for 283 horsepower replacing three old V-6s.

The new engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and there is a Fuel Economizer Mode that changes the shift schedule for better fuel efficiency.

The suspension has been re-engineered and the van lowered. Lower-rolling resistance tires are designed to improve gas mileage.
The strength of a minivan is the utility of the interior. To that end, for 2011 there is a new one-piece instrument panel with larger gauges and a new center console for storage and an area for large items such as a purse.

The Stow 'n Go seats are more comfortable and can be operated with a one-touch button.

The Grand Caravan introduces a heated steering wheel to the segment.

Safety features include a rear park-assist system and backup camera as well as blind-spot monitoring and a system that detects vehicles crossing the van's path from behind.

There is a new front fascia, grille, hood and quad headlights to make it look more aggressive than its Chrysler Town & Country counterpart. In back there is a new rear fascia, liftgate and LED taillamps.

For 2011 there are four trim levels of Grand Caravan. The Express, Mainstreet and Crew go on sale this quarter and the R/T — dubbed the "man van" — follows next spring.

The minivans are built at the assembly plant in Windsor, Ontario.

2011 Dodge Avenger Reworked

2011 Dodge Avenger Reworked
Chrysler has revamped the Dodge Avenger sedan for 2011, mildly reworking the sheet metal but dramatically upgrading the interior and suspension, while offering new powertrain combinations.

The look hasn't changed much, unlike the situation with the Avenger's longtime stablemate, the Chrysler Sebring, which has morphed into the 2011 Chrysler 200.

Under the skin, however, the 2011 Avenger is quite a different animal. Chrysler extensively re-engineered and retuned the suspension, lowering ride height, widening the track, reducing body roll and improving steering response and precision.

The standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine is supplemented this year with the new 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, which in the 2011 Avenger is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and makes 283 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque.

A heavy interior makeover includes a new instrument panel and steering wheel, upgraded seats and new color and fabric choices.

The 2011 Avenger will begin reaching Dodge dealerships later this quarter.

2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 Rises to Head of Muscle Car Class | Red Letter Dodge

2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 Rises to Head of Muscle Car Class | Red Letter Dodge
Over half a century ago, Chrysler rolled out the first iteration of their now iconic V8 engines with the FirePower lineup. Leading the pack was the 392 HEMI which quickly established itself as the engine to beat on the drag strip. Or the engine to try to beat, at any rate, since there were little stock options that put up as much of a fight on the quarter-mile as the 392.

Next week, the 392’s battle will wage on when the 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 makes its premiere debut on the SEMA showroom floor. In place of the 6.1L HEMI V8 that so faithfully served the SRT8 models of years past sits the brand new 6.4L 392 cu. in. V8, churning out 470-horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. Control of the beast is aided by both a modified front chin spoiler and bigger front splitter, and the suspension has been recalibrated to respond more swiftly to the jerk-your-head-back muscle. The end result is a seamless expression of brute force, almost delicate in its perfect execution.

To commemorate Dodge’s newest comeback kid, the first 1,492 SRT8’s will be designated Inaugural Edition models of the Challenger SRT8 392 and feature several unique calling cards. Chief among them will be the two available paint combinations, either Deep Water Blue with standard Stone White stripes or Bright White Clear Coat with standard Viper Blue stripes. 20” SRT wheels, Pearl White leather-trimmed seats, unique blue stitching accents, and two “392 HEMI” fender badges round out the exterior trademarks – all of which leads to an unmistakable, formidable presence.

The 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 will be built at the Brampton Assembly Plant and will arrive in U.S. dealerships in the fourth quarter of 2010.

Chrysler reveals upgrades to 2011 Dodge Journey | detnews.com | The Detroit News

Chrysler Group LLC today released pictures of the upgrades to the 2011 Dodge Journey midsize crossover that goes on sale this quarter.

The Journey, which comes as a five- or seven-passenger vehicle, has a new suspension, the new Pentastar V-6 engine and upgrades to the interior.

The big news here, of course, is the Journey's newly crafted interior with higher-quality materials which puts the outgoing model's cabin to shame (not that it was hard..). Just about everything you see on the dashboard is new, including the sporty looking instrument panel with a standard electronic vehicle information center featuring a full-color display backlit.

The makeover is completed with a new multi-functioning three-spoke steering wheel, larger front storage bin with side nets, newly designed seats and controls, as well as an available Uconnect Touch media center with a touch-screen display. Dodge said the mid-size crossover offers six new interior color and trim options.

On the outside, the cosmetic changes are far less prominent and are limited to the new front fascia sporting the brand's signature "split crosshair" honeycomb grille, restyled fog lamp bezels, available 19-inch wheels, a less angular rear fascia and LED tail-lamps. In addition, the V6 models get a more aggressive lower fascia with a honeycomb grille.

Police Try to Thumb a Ride With Anti-Texting Message - WSJ.com

Police Try to Thumb a Ride With Anti-Texting Message - WSJ.com
Iowa police are on the lookout for drivers who send text messages behind the wheel. So far, the effort is all thumbs.

Instead of tickets, police are giving texting drivers colorful bands to wear on their thumbs that say: "TXTNG KILLS."

The bands are part of a statewide campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of texting while driving under a new law prohibiting the practice that took effect July 1. For the first year, police can give scofflaws warnings only. Next year, fines will kick in.

AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety

AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety
Teens Not Exposed to Diverse Driving Experience Prior to Licensing, Finds AAA Foundation Study
In advance of National Teen Driver Safety Week (October 17-23), today the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety released the first naturalistic study using in-vehicle cameras to capture teenage drivers and their parents during their supervised driving phase. Nearly half (47 percent) of parents in the study reported that after the year-long learner’s stage, there was still at least one condition in which they did not feel comfortable letting their teen drive. Yet, more than one-third (37 percent) of these families allowed their teen to obtain a license within a month of being eligible, although a few families restricted driving in certain scenarios.

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teenagers in this country. The first few years of unsupervised driving are the most dangerous – 1,368 U.S. teen drivers age 15-18 died in traffic crashes in 2008. However, teens are clearly a danger to others as well because the total number of deaths resulting from these crashes was 3,431.

The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is already earning high praise in its standard form, and now Chrysler's Mopar division has released a host of accessories to beef up the new sport-ute's style and functionality.

Grand Cherokees can now be fitted with the usual collection of exterior bolt-ons, including a range of new wheel options, skid plates, and side steps. What's more interesting, however, is the stuff available for the Grand Cherokee's interior. Mopar is offering FLO TV, a live, mobile television streaming service, making the big Jeep the first SUV available with this feature. That sure beats listening to the same episode of Yo Gabba Gabba over and over. Additionally, the latest version of Chrysler's UConnect infotainment software is available, which can turn the SUV into a mobile wi-fi hotspot.
